Visitors, and members who have not been able to attend meetings over the winter, will find new exhibits at the History Center. In addition, the Center now has new hours.
To recognize these changes, there will be an open house at the Center from 2:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 3, with cookies and punch. Sharalyn Smith will be on hand to talk about the quilt her mother, Imogene Edwards Durr, made for Englewood’s sesquicentennial in 1991. Durr and many of her friends at the Heck Center worked from 1990 to 1991 to create this work celebrating Englewood’s history. Measuring 78"x 86", the quilt features appliqués showing buildings of historic Englewood, including the old covered bridge that spanned the Stillwater River.
The Center also features displays celebrating the anniversaries of Clayton, Englewood, and Union. Aerial photos of the three towns from the 1920s show the business areas of each town at the time. In addition, there are historic and modern photos of buildings and scenes around the towns and maps of the area.
The RTHS garage sale will be at the History Center from 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. on June 2 and 3 and from 9:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. on June 4. The Society will also participate in the Mill Ridge Flea Market from 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. June 9 and 8:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. on June 10. Donations of new or gently used items such as decorative room accessories, children’s toys, kitchen items, bedroom items, CDs, DVDs, and books are welcome. (No computers or computer accessories, clothing, or large items of furniture, please.) The Society also needs volunteers to price, transport, and set up on Wednesday and to help during the sale. Call 832-1858.
