The President's Message
Volume 16, Issue 3
From Glynn Marsh

July - 2014

The History Center is looking better than ever both inside and out, thanks to the efforts of many different individuals. The day lilies on the south side are blooming beautifully with more flowers to come later in the summer. The planters and benches at the west entrance, paid for with a grant from the Montgomery County Solid Waste District (MCSWD) provide a welcoming atmosphere to visitors. Thanks to all involved for their good work.

These are busy times. The foyer was repainted and has new carpeting. A focal point in the room is “The Old National Road” oil painting done by Englewood artist, Hal Sherman, especially for the Society. Unfortunately Sherman passed away before the dedication of his piece, which was held on June 19.

The best news is that the Society has been awarded a “Recycling Incentive” grant for $32,610 from MCSWD to purchase and install new roofing, etc. on the building. This is a marvelous opportunity to upgrade the Center but does require RTHS to come up with an additional $15,200. We hope you our members will respond to this monetary challenge.

Plan now to attend the Saturday July 19 program to learn about the history of several different local service organizations. Dick Weimer will represent the Englewood Lions Club and also serve as moderator.
