By the time you read this, the roofing project at the History Center may be done. Check out “in-progress” photos on the events page that show first phases of the work, and activities at the “Roofing It Up” party held on August 29. As you know, the Society is required by terms of the grant from the Montgomery County Solid Waste District (MCSWD) to match 30% ($15,200) of the $47,810 cost of buying and installing the recycled aluminum roofing, fascia, soffits, gutters, and downspouts.
I am thrilled to report that at the August 20 board meeting, it was announced that RTHS was to receive an anonymous donation of $15,000 to meet our obligations on the roof. We board members were left speechless. – One generous donor has bailed us out! – The money is now in the bank, but members of the board feel strongly this single donation should be treated as a CHALLENGE GRANT.
Let’s raise “our own” $15,000. We’re already on our way, with $5,185 to date. Just $10,000 in additional donations will put the Society on firm financial footing again and enable us to continue meeting our mission to preserve and interpret local history.
Why not visit the History Center soon and have your own look at the many improvements and enjoy the refreshed history displays? Donation forms are available at the Center and as a downloadable form on this website. Just look at the History Center Page and click on "DOWNLOAD the RAISE THE ROOF DONATION FORM" in the MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD. I know we can do this together by the end of 2014. Keep recycling!
