The Engle Family
Descendants of Ulrich and Anna (Breckbill) Engle who came to America on the ship
“Phoenix” in 1754 and settled in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania will be celebrating the 250th
anniversary of their arrival in 2004. An Engle family association has been formed and a huge
family reunion is planned for June 26, 2004 at a location to be announced in Lancaster Co., PA.
Their youngest son Jacob (Yokelli) Engle was a founder of the River Brethren Church
(Brethren in Christ). Three of the children of Jacob’s son Jacob, emigrated to the Miami Valley
in the mid-1800s. They were (1) Elizabeth Engle (born 1801) who married Martin Heisey; (2)
Maria Engle (born 1816) who married Jacob Cassel and Jacob Engle (born 1803) who married
Nancy Moyer. Some of the latter Engles had ties to Fairview Brethren in Christ Church in
Englewood.
A data base is being compiled of the descendants of Ulrich and Anna Engle. The Engle
family organization has a website www.englefamily.net which has the details. The data base is
based on the Englewood Family History by Morris Engle published in 1927 and seeks to update
the list given in the book.
