Quarterly newsletter of Randolph Township Historical Society and its History Museum
A Note from the President…
Happy New Year friends! I am hopeful that it will be a happy ,
bright and p rosperous new year for one and all. While I am
saddened that the History Center has been shut down since last
March, I am happy to report that great strides have been made in
transforming the Center into a new museum. It is just at the
beginning stage, but changes have been made and I think we will
all be in awe of the work that Misti Spillman is doing in her rol e as
Executive Dire ctor. Misti ha s the displays in the great hall in the
Center nearly dism antled and she will now be utilizing the
basement as a storage and staging area for our collections . New
and on-loan exhibits will be displayed on a ro tating basis allowing
for visitors to see more of the items in the themed collections. I am
looking forward to her f irst set of exhibits ! Misti has settled right in
at the Center and with the Society taking care of the day-to-day
business of answering incoming questions and inquiries via phone,
e-mail and Facebook. While I have been posting daily historical
newspaper articles about the townshi p each morning , Misti has
been scanning photos in our collection and posting them in the
evening. This has gre atly increased o ur on-line presence and we
about to surpass 900 “likes” on our page. Misti sold the three
benches that were along the walls in the great hall to a gentleman
living in Illinois. This allowed us to add $600 to our income! I hope
you are as pleased as I am for the progress being made.
I want to personally than k Wilma Schroeder and Cleva Collar
for the time and energy put forth in their roles as Corresponding
Secretary and Sunshine Committee Chair, respectively. Both have
stepped down fro m their offic ial roles but remain members of the
Society. Cleva is a ray of sunshine herself and I am sure her cards
and letters to those members who needed a little sunshine were
happy to receive her mailings. Wilma has worked tirelessly in
keeping up with memberships and acknowledgement letters. While
a rewarding position with the Society, it takes a lot of time in
November and December when many people make their annual
gift. We should all be grateful fo r the work these two ladies hav e
done over their many years as members of the Historical Society.
I would like to say we will meet next mo nth but I do not foresee
that happening soon. I will make an announcement as to when we
will meet again and when the History Center will be ope n to
visitors. In the meantime, enjoy this newsletter with updates on the
Center and two of our corporate members.

Director’s Report by Misti Spillman

I hope everyone is doing well in the new year. Since we have been closed du e to the
pandemic, I am currently working on the collections and t he exhibit space . The down time
seemed like th e perfect opportunity to redo our displays and expand the storage are a
downstairs. The goal is to reopen in the spring , pending the pandemic, and have rotating
exhibits every 3 to 4 months. We will start collaborating with other museums in reference to
artifact loans. This will keep our displays fresh and draw new people as well as people who
have already visited the History Center.
We recently beca me members o f the Northmont Area Chamber of Commerce, Ohio
Museum Association and the Ohio Lo cal History Alliance. These organizations will provide
access to special progra ms, networking, conferences, grants and other resour ces that are
beneficial for the Society. The goal is to get our name out there and for people to learn about
our museum and research center . Our membership is growing and n ow is the perfe ct time to
renew your membership for 2021 if you have not already.
We are looking for a volunteer who would be interested in helping as the Sunshine
Committee Chair. This committee member’s role is to send cheerful greetings by sending a
card on behalf of the society to members on their birthday , anniversary or an illness and to
send sympathies at the loss of a family member. If you are interested, please contact me at
rthsdirector@gmail.com.
Great things are happening at the History Center! As always, thank you for your continue d
support.

display. (right) If you have not been to the History Center in a while, you can see that Misty is making great strides
in clearing out the great hall to make room for more comprehensive historical displays.

Many will remember the businesses shown here: Zimmerman’s Market, Pure Oil Station, the
